Y.O.U. (Your Own Utopia) is meant to include you in the making of Utopia Suite by asking for your opinions on an on-going basis. The questions are up-dated periodically. Right now, we want to know about your Utopia Hall of Fame, who's in it and why, and for your responses to the art so far. You can ask us questions too, but our answers to what you write will also show up in the art that's made for future segments of the project. In this way you can influence the rest of Utopia Suite between now and its completion in the year 2020. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Y.O.U. (Your Own Utopia) was first introduced in Spring, 2009, to accompany an exhibit of Utopia Suite Disco, which features the Utopia Hall of Fame. This was a co-presentation of the Thames Art Gallery and the Media City Film Festival. There was an international email-based outreach campaign for the questionnaire, and paper handout versions were also placed in libraries and public buildings in the Chatham, Ontario, region to include as much of the community as possible.
Y.O.U. (Your Own Utopia) was also part of a show presented by the WNDX Festival of Film & Video Art at the PLATFORM centre for photographic + digital arts, which included library handouts and a web-based outreach to the Métis community throughout the province of Manitoba (Louis Riel is a member of the Utopia Hall of Fame).
One interesting questionnaire result so far: a few people have said that they don't like the idea of a "Hall of Fame", and other people have nominated their close family members and best friends instead of the famous utopians that we chose, and this gave us an idea... (watch for it, it's coming).
Many questionnaire respondents have also suggested new Utopia Hall of Fame members that we're now researching, reading, and learning from. This is greatly informing the future art of the project. Thanks!
